The five-year apprenticeship period is divided into one year segments, each of which includes a minimum of 1,800 hours of on the job training and 200 hours related classroom/shop instruction. That equates to 9000 hours of on the job training and 1000 hours of related classroom/shop instruction. UANJ apprentices attend school for classroom, computer and shop instruction for a full eight hour day every two weeks, and work for a signatory HVACR contractor for on the job training the other nine days. There are over 180 Union HVACR Contractors in the UANJ jurisdiction. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will receive 32 college credits, a diploma from the NJ Dept. of Labor and the United Association, Universal CFC certification, OSHA 30 training, UA STAR HVACR Mastery certificate as well as various other certificates pertaining to the trade.

New Jersey PHCC- Apprenticeship - Construction/Utilities
The New Jersey PHCC offers online plumbing and HVACR apprentice courses for apprentices who need a non-classroom based method of receiving their apprenticeship instruction. This program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, New Jersey Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, & Office of Apprenticeship, as a reasonable option for apprentice training. Each course is the equivalent of one year of classroom instruction and is approved for the required 144 hrs. of RTI. The program is NJDOL approved and registered for online apprenticeship program in the State of New Jersey.

UA Plumbers And Pipefitters Local 9, JATC- Apprenticeship - Construction/Utilities
Applications for the five-year apprenticeship in one of the three apprenticeship programs (Plumbing, Pipefitting, and HVAC Service) are generally accepted once a year. Applications must be completed in-person by the applicant at the Local #9 Training Center at 450 Route 33 & Iron Ore Road, Englishtown, New Jersey.

Within 35 weeks, students will learn and practice HVAC&R installation, repair, maintenance, basic design, and troubleshooting. You’ll be trained in multiple aspects of HVAC&R, like electrical wiring and controls, repairing, brazing and soldering techniques. In fact, students will roll up their sleeves and get to work completing a new install, from a bare wall to a full operating system. The program also provides certification testing for Section 608 (EPA) as part of this program. That means, once you graduate, you’ll likely be able to get higher-level positions within the HVAC industry, and have higher earning potential due to your extensive training. There is also a Trac Pipe Certification.

Electrical Assistant & HVAC

The Electrical Assistant and HVAC program combines the electrical and HVAC skills. Students will be prepared and trained to acquire electrical and HVAC skills needed to be more competitive in the field. It will introduce students to industrial, commercial and residential wiring, motor control and theory consistent with the National Electric Code. HVAC component will have students competency and basic work skills pertaining to the heating, modern refrigeration, air conditioning industry. Upon completion of the program, students will take the Environmental Protection Agency Universal Certification Examination.

This program will train students in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. They will develop competency and basic work skills pertaining to heating and cooling, modern refrigeration, air conditioning and plumbing industry. They will acquire he knowledge and skills to seek career opportunities in a variety of industries such as operating technicians, sheet metal assistant, repair specialist, maintenance technicians, installer, tester and application technicians.
