New Jersey Certified Homemaker/Home Health Aide Program

Credentials: Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA)

This program includes the 76 hours curriculum mandated by the New Jersey Board of Nursing to include all components necessary (speech, occupational, physical therapy, CPR, dietary skills, etc.) to train participants to provide home care to the ill and elderly through nursing agencies, hospice agencies, rehabilitation centers, etc. In addition, 30 hours of make-up time has been incorporated into the program. Upon completion of the program, verification of student’s test scores will be submitted to the New Jersey Board of Nursing student will receive certification from the Board of Nursing within five weeks.

Pharmacy Technician Program

Credentials: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

This 200 hours entry-level program is ideal for an individual who is seeking employment in the medical field as a Pharmacy Technician. Students will possess a working knowledge of the role of a pharmacy technician, the duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of a pharmacy technician, drug related problems and adverse reactions, pharmacy practice standards, dispensing functions, and inventory control. Additionally, students will understand the definition of a drug, the absorption, distribution, and excretion of drugs, generic and brand names for drugs, adverse side effects, risk to benefit, understand prescriptions and be able to read prescriptions and drug orders, transfer and process refills, and proper inventory and labeling of drugs, Students will also understand the hospital pharmacy, unit dose distribution systems, medication labels, pharmaceutical calculations, perform basic mathematical procedures, calculation of children’s doses, total parenteral nutrition, TPN admixture components, and the functions, of the different body systems and related medications. Upon completion of this program students will possess skills necessary for employment in a pharmacy, retail, hospital, emergency medical facility, and/or a clinic.

New Jersey State Certified Nursing Assistant Program

Credentials: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

The program is comprised of the New Jersey Department of Health mandated curriculum and includes 50 hours of classroom lecture and 40 hours of clinical experience. In addition, 50 hours of make-up time (as required by the New Jersey department of Health) has been incorporated into the program but will not be used unless absolutely necessary for a student to complete a module. Upon completion of this program, the participant must successfully complete a skills evaluation, the participant is eligible to take the electronic certification exam administered by Assessment Systems, Inc. (ASI, the approved testing agency). The successful candidate can seek employment in a Long-Term Care facility, Assisted Living facility, Doctors office, or in the Hospital. After passing the exam, the student becomes a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant, the candidate is eligible to go on for advanced training to become a Certified Medication Aide.

Cosmetology Program

Students spend the first 600 hours (junior phase) in a classroom setting learning theory and practical instruction on a mannequin. For practical testing, students are invited to bring models to class for hair cutting and hair coloring. Students transition to the student salon for the second set of 600 hours (senior phase) where they are permitted to work on the general public under the supervision of licensed New Jersey educators. The senior phase of the training also includes special preparation to pass the NJ State Board Licensing Exam and job search techniques including building an online portfolio.

Skin Care Program

The curriculum for the 600-hour Skin Care Specialty Course consists of instructional units and clinical practice. The skin care specialty course includes field trips to the International Dermal Institute where professional aestheticians perform demonstrations and give lectures utilizing Dermalogica products. A wellness trip is organized to discuss the mind/body connection and the benefits of healthy eating and exercise. Students travel to makeup counters at Sephora, Lush, Bare Minerals, and Nordstrom where they learn product knowledge and discuss price points. Students also travel to a medical spa to learn about career opportunities in that avenue of the industry. Students are invited to attend the International Beauty Show as well as The Makeup Show in NYC.

Nail Design Program

Credentials: Manicurist License

Students enrolled in the Nail Program spend the first 150 hours training in both theory and practical subjects in the classroom. During the second half of the course, students transition to work on the floor of the Nail Studio. PB Cosmetology Education Centre opens the Nail Studio to the public and students perform nail services under the supervision of licensed New Jersey nail design educators. PB Cosmetology Education Centre issues its students a comprehensive nail kit and textbook package. The kit consists of files and implements, adhesives, acrylic application, nail polish, gel color starter kit, a cold wax kit, and a 36 watt UV light. The kit is packed in a durable carrying case that holds everything securely in place.
