This course present the basic elements and concepts of accounting, with emphasis on the procedures used for maintaining journals, ledgers, and other related record, and for the completion of end-of period for small service and merchandising businesses, how t o use financial statements to be wise users of accounting information. Next, students are introduced to computerized accounting in a microcomputer environment. Topics include a review of basic accounting theory and training in both manual and computerized accounting procedures. This program introduces students to the spreadsheets as an accounting tool. Students will learn to apply fundamental spreadsheet concepts and use them as a problem solving and decision making tool. By using a pre-designed accounting software package, students learn the principles and techniques required for computerized processing of accounting data and for generating accounting reports and financial statements.
