Plumbing Assistant

The Plumbing Assistant course provides students with basic plumbing theory and practical experience in the application and principles of plumbing, draining, and safety standard regulations. Workmanship and safety will be strongly emphasized throughout each section of this course. This course will enable the student to be knowledgeable in the construction aspect of residential and commercial plumbing in order to find employment as an assistant to a master plumber. The students will learn to work with the different types of tubing, such as: P.V.C/A.B.S., copper, cast, etc. and all pertaining fittings. Students will be acquainted with OSHA and BOCA safety regulations. They will gain the knowledge of tools, equipment, fittings and water heating equipment. Upon completion of this course, the title of the student will be that of Plumber’s helper or assistant. To be able to take the New Jersey Master Plumbing Licensing test the student will be required to work five (5) years under the supervision of a master or journeyman plumber as required by the New Jersey State Dept. of Consumer Affairs Division of Plumbing Contractors. This course addresses not only the attainment of measurable proficiencies in the Plumber Assistant competencies, but includes Microsoft Excel, SOFT SKILLS training module and Job Search Techniques.
