NJCU School of Business ‘Sports Wagering and Fintech Workforce Development and Innovation Center’

New Jersey City University and New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) signed an agreement on June 30, 2021, to establish the “Sports Wagering and Fintech Workforce Development and Innovation Center” at the NJCU School of Business with seed funding from NJEDA. The center was incorporated on April 21, 2022, as a 501(c)(3) domestic non-profit corporation independent from the university and NJEDA.

• Impact on workforce development in the State of New Jersey:
  • Sports wagering and the accompanying technology, product innovations, and associated supply chain was identified as one of NJ’s growth-oriented sectors.
  • Careers in the sports wagering technology industry have the potential to be high-paying and high-value-adding technology, compliance, product development, and customer service jobs.
  • Industry has expressed the need for workforce development initiatives to support growth.

The course covers the fundamentals of line work and provides class participants with training in the areas of bucket truck and equipment operations.

The initiative includes The High School Energy Career Academy.

The High School Energy Career Academy is a four-year program focused on preparing students in grades nine through 12, for entering post-secondary education or moving directly to employment with a utility company. The extensive program model not only helps students to build their knowledge of the energy industry, it also includes employability skills and integrated academic components as well.

WISE is a course designed for women to explore non-traditional, in-demand jobs in the construction, gas, water, electric, and energy industries. The program is a 40-hour curriculum that provides women the opportunity to learn about career paths in these related fields.
