Every Thursday, the U.S. Department of Labor releases Unemployment Insurance Weekly (UI) Claims at the national and state levels.  Prior to COVID-19, Focus NJ was tracking the state’s total employment on a monthly basis, given that the state was experiencing historic lows in unemployment.  However, the novel coronavirus is having a major impact on the state’s unemployment insurance weekly claims and total unemployed population.  In an effort to track the economic impact of COVID-19 in real time, this interactive is updated weekly to display the most-up-to-date data on New Jersey’s weekly unemployment insurance claims and total unemployment.
